To Create This Piece I Hand Stitched Fabric And Then Cast This Fabric Into Metal, A Technique I Haven’T Seen Done Before.
This Earring Is Part Of The Women’S Work Collection, Inspired By Traditional Quilting.
Since Women’S Stories Are Often Excluded From Historical Narratives, Quilt Makers Used The “Domestic Arts” As A Creative Space To Not Only Share Their Own Perspective, But Communicate Messages Of Freedom, Safety, Progress And Community.
Inspired By An Exhibit On Contemporary Quilting That I Saw In Early 2020, This Collection Spotlights The Idea That Sewing And Quilting Has Often Been Spoken Down Upon As, “Women’S Work”. Growing Up In The Midwest And With A Love For Sewing Myself, I Wanted To Create Jewelry Designs That Pay Homage To Quilting As An Art Form.
